RE: worried
Even with the apartment gates closing normally the chances of it getting stolen eventually are still good. If its completely impossible to get it inside your apt, use all methods combined: multiple locks, both chain and cable, bike cover, and get either an installed or disc lock with a loud alarm and paging system to alert your cell phone.
Theft insurance is really the safest option. A good friend of mine sells used bikes with in-house financing, so therefore he also repo's bikes from deadbeats. I know from his experiences that it is way too easy for a pro to steal a bike almost instantly. I couldn't sleep the first few days i had my bike until i had theft ins, even with it disc locked inside my garage.

gates don't matter, they're just an illusion of safety. there's always people comin in and out. so all someone has to do is wait on the gate and plus they open automatically on the way out. if u live on the first floor, i've seen folks park their bikes by their front door here in phoenix. a cover might help but thats not gonna keep them from picking the bike up. like everyone says, if they want it bad enough they will take it. hope your bike will be alright.

best method is to completely block your bike. If you know others in the apartment, ask them to park their cars in a way so that your bike is blocked in. Park next to a wall and ask 3 cars to park in front of itso you'll have a wall or a car on both sides. hopefully, one of them is your friend so they can trust giving you a key to the car to move it in case you have to get out.
sorry for the long explanation. but that's why my friend does in his apartment.

My professional recommendation is to first make sure your insurance covers you, and if you suspect your bike is next, just give yourself enough coverage to replace it for something even better. Second, notify your local law enforcement. Give them the VIN number and description, take a digital photo of it to give to them. If your not riding it now, securing it in a storage unit for a month or two in another option. But to take the law into your own hands is the wrong answer, nothing is worth losing your life over, if you have a bat, who knows if they have a gun? No matter how much you love you bike, its still just a bike.

Thanks for everyones comments, and yea i know i wouldnt plan on going out and waiting with a gun or something for someone to steal it but i called my insurance about getting full coverage on my bike and they said it would go from about 900 a year to almost 7000 so i need to call and see if there is any way i can get just enough coverage to get it covered if its stolen. And yea ill take some pics later of how i have it set up and see if u guys can think of anything else
