Transmission rebuild / replacement - splitting cases
Hi team,
Trying my luck if anyone has experience rebuilding F4i engines.
So my transmission is shot - the dog ears on the centre mainshaft gears are grinded, and gears are slipping. I am planning on undertaking a transmission swap - not doing any work on the top end (bar check valve clearances because why not, it's already there).
In my head, it seems quite simple once the engine is dropped, oil and coolant drained, etc.:
1. Remove everything on the clutch and alternator sides
2. Remove timing chain connection to bottom side (but leave timing chain connected to top end)
3. Split cases, replace transmission gears with new set
4. Reassemble and retime engine
Questions:
1. Can I leave sensor connectors that are only connected to the top half and the starter motor in while doing this? I can't see why not... but please correct me.
2. Is there anything that I'm missing that would connect the two halves apart from the chains (timing and oil pump chain) and clutch + alternator / flywheel components?
If there's anything else I should check / work on while I'm in there, let me know too. First time getting my hands dirty (somewhat mechanically inclined)
Dropping the engine tomorrow so will keep people updated if there's demand.
Thanks,
Nick

Sorry for the late update on this - turns out the project took longer than I thought (c.110 hours incl. debugging etc.)
Engine is back together and cranking, but fuel pump isn't priming. Hopefully some last diagnosis and we're good to go!
