Tire pressure AND suspension settings

RE: Tire pressure AND suspension settings
I personally run 32mm in the front and in the back and think it feels great... my buddy likes his rear setting to be stiffer so he runs 30mm in the back and 34-35 in the front. again personal preference...
the three measurments are pretty easy, L1 is the suspension fully extended. I did this by putting the kickstand down and leaing the bike over on it until either the front or the rear came off the ground and had a buddy take the measurment. once you have that, you put on all of your riding gear and sit on the bike. you can either have another person hold you up or you can balance yourself on your tiptoes... the key is to get into your normal riding position. to get the l2 measurement, have a buddy push down on the bike compressing the suspension about an inch the let up slowly, then take a measurement. For the L3 measurement, you lift up an inch and let back down slowly, then take the measurement...
Static sag = L1 - [(L2+L3)/2]
Start with the rear then do the front...
This all sounds bananas but it will make a difference... i have a spreadsheet you can print out that has all of this info on it... i just have to figure out how to post it

RE: Tire pressure AND suspension settings
MEASURING STATIC SPRING SAG
REAR SUSPENSION
Step 1. Suspension Fully Extended L1______________
Step 2. Rider On-board, Push Down, Let up L2______________
Step 3. Rider On-board, Lift Up, Let Down L3______________
FORMULA for static spring sag:
Static Spring Sag = L1 – [(L2+L3)/2]
Static Spring Sag, Rear = _________________
REAR SETTINGS:
Road Race Bikes 25-30 mm
Street Bikes 30-35 mm
Off-Road Bikes 95-100 mm
Rear Suspension Stiction (mechanical condition) = L3 – L2
Stiction_____________
Rear Suspension, GOOD condition = 3 mm
Rear Suspension, POOR condition = 10 mm
FRONT SUSPENSION
Step 1. Suspension Fully Extended L1______________
Step 2. Rider On-board, Push Down, Let up L2______________
Step 3. Rider On-board, Lift Up, Let Down L3______________
FORMULA for static spring sag:
Static Spring Sag = L1 – [(L2+L3)/2]
Static Spring Sag, Front =_________________
FRONT SETTINGS:
Road Race Bikes 25-30 mm
Street Bikes 30-35 mm
Off-Road Bikes 75-85 mm
Front Suspension Stiction (mechanical condition) = L3 – L2
Stiction_____________
Front Suspension, GOOD condition = 15 mm
Front Suspension, POOR condition = 40 mm
The spreadsheet looks way better in the original format... but here it is never the less... hope this helps...
