Default Is there a noticable difference changing sprockets

-1/+2 on 2002 cbr 600f4i. I need a new chain and was thinking of doing the sprocket conversion. I just don't want to do it if there's barely an increase as I like to really feel results when spending extra $$$. So can you really feel the extra increase in acceleration???

I did not want to go that high and i went -1 front. I have to say it made a very noticable difference. At slow speeds my rpms are a little higher, which makes it easier to control. Now the rpms and speed wind up a bit faster and it is more in the powerband in crusing and city street speeds. Being in the powerband means being able to twist and go without waiting for the engine to catch up. Useful if you ever have to get out of the way of a threat.

I can still ride in first and second gear on the freeways with slow heavy traffic.

It wants to come up a bit getting on it hard but i would imagine you will have to control it more if you go up two in back.

If you are going to do it, do it right and replace everything at once. I wouldnt go w/ just a front and not replace a rear of at least the same number.
I did my -1,+2 just 2 weeks ago and I wouldnt change it for anything. It is a good noticable difference, but isnt any harder to handle, just more torque. RPM's do go up a little but its not as significant as others make it sound(6th gear, only like 1k). Prolly recommend getting a speedohealer w/ any size difference, I still have to get mine. Hard acceleration, it will come up a little in 1st and much easier to come up if your trying

I have -1 in the front and its plenty of torque for me. I dont do wheelies or anything though. It set my speedo exactly +5MPH where it should be. 40mph is actually 35. I would imagine its worse if you go +2 in the back also. You can buy a speedo Healer to fix it.

On a side note, do we have info on changing sprockets and chains stickied anywhere? If we dont it would be a good idea to do so because it seems like someone asks about it nearly every day.

If you have to replace chain, then you should replace the sprockets too. New chain + old sprockets = another replacement soon. They should always be replaced together. That being said, its not gonna cost you any more money for whatever gearing you choose. i.e. -1, -1+2, ect.

I do A LOT of freeway driving and I went the other way +2/-3. Basically as big as I could on the front and as small as they sell (steel, not aluminum). At 70mph, dropped the RPMs by 1,200 ! Consistently 50+ MPG.

Only by 1200 at 70mph? Wow, I would've thought it would be a bigger change with that kind of gearing.

I went -1 in the front and it pulled from the get go. The "rush" when you hit the powerband was lessened since you spun up the rpm's so fast. For cruising I wouldn't do it again since it lowers gas mileage and your revs are pretty high at free way speed but on the track it was awesome.
