Default Changing Sprockets again...

Well its about time for me to get new sprockets again. I was told that -1 down in the front is the equivalant of going +3 in the back. I know the most common setup is -1 +2 but I have my sprocket repainted to the color scheme of the bike so was thinking of going with a larger rear sprocket and just returning to the normal 16t front. So if I just got a +5 rear sprocket would it be just about the same performance/gearing as -1 +2?

I believe that is correct, but if you go +5, keep in mind that you might need to order a longer than normal chain. It would suck to find that out while you are in the middle of installing it.

-1/+2 is a ratio of 3:1

in order to keep that ratio and have a 16T front sprocket, you'd need a 48T Rear Sprocket.

so yes, a +5 rear would do you perfect. except you'd need a longer chain.
