Default Changing Both Sprockets and Chain????

I just bought new sprockets and chain. Going to the 520 with -1 +2 set up. The local stealership said they would do it for $130 which i think may be high, but I dont know what tools I will need and how to actually change out the sprockets. Will I need a stand?? And what other tools will I need to complete the job if I were to do it myself?

$130 just for the labor????

Do it yourself.

You will need a stand and a dremel tool would be good but you could chop the link with a hacksaw too. Other than that its basic tools that almost everyone has in the toolbox like sockets and a flathead screw driver.

you'll also need a chain break toolkit, to put the new chain together. they can be a lil expensive, like $100, but then u get to keep it for next tym, or u could try get someone to loan u one. but it is a pretty easy swap

if it is already $100 just to buy the chain break tool then maybe i should have the stealership do it. I also dont have a dremel tool nor is there anyone i can barrow one from. i will look around and see what i can find.

Well you can buy a chain breaker/riveter for 100$ and use it everytime you change your chain and sprocket. Since your going 520 it doesnt last as long as the 525 or the 530 so if your mechanically inclined then buy the tool and do it. I'm only gonna buy a riveter since i can dremel/punch the chain out.

no need for stand...just something to cut chain and a chain press/rivet tool.

you don't have to get the one for the bike...Home Depot has chain press kits, as long as it's able to press 520 chains then you're all good. they have them for like chain saws and stuff.

interesting that they charge you 130 for 30 mins max of work!

130 for 30 min of work is about right because I will be by the books it is not a 1/2 hour job, I will bet by the books it is 2 hour job. For 130 in labor I would just have them do it, but the time you buy everything to do it correctly you will be spending that on the tools, plus your own labor to not only install the chain and sprokets, your labor to find the tools and parts, to figure out how to use the tools.....Do you have a torque wrench? Do you have the chain break/rivit tool kit? Bike Stand or someplace to stand it up? Large sockets for the axel nut? $130 is great as far as I am concerned for labor....on top of that, if you get a high quality chain and TAKE CARE OF IT, it will last you 15-20k miles if not more.....Don't bother it is not worth you time. I do all my own bikes but I already have to tools, the know how and do my friends bikes as well.....if I had the money tho....DEALER IT IS....it just easier to ride and have someone else do the work....lol.

i think i will just have the dealer do it. I have done all my own work on my bike and cars but i just dont have the tools for this job and yes I understand that if i buy the tools now i wont have to again but its just not worth it right now. the dealership said it would be an half and a half to do the job and they let anyone over 18 test drive the bikes, so when i go i will test out the 1000RR, GSX-R 1000 and the R1 they have there. I plan on buying a liter bike this summer so it will be a good time to test out all the bikes and see which one i like. I hear the new 08 1kRR is better than the other 3 Asian competitors so i will find out. Thank you everyone for the advice by the way.
