I'd say go for it if you have the time and confidence. I need to replace my vss as well. The stealership quoted me at about 200 for parts & labor. I personally enjoy working on my bike so I'm not going to pay someone else to do it. Just go into it with knowledge on what you need to do, a couple o' beers and a buddy. Dont go to heavy on the brew though, thats when chit gets hard haha

I wrote the How To.

What you need to do is actually VERY simple and requires no real technical ability, just some persistence as it is a bit of a bastard to get at.

Call a bike breaker and ask about the price of a used sensor, they are normally pretty cheap. Besides that no special tools, parts or real mechanical ability are required so it is a good way to get more familiar with your bike and save some money.

Yes, that is what I meant. Ive had my bike torn down that far before and its simple enough. Just pay attention to where all the hoses and connectors are supposed to go

haha cnicosiaF4i, i can only imagine how complicated it could get with a few beers lol
I wouldn't consider myself confident, but I also don't want to flush my money down the toilet. i got the same quote.
DonnyBrago, unfortunately, I didn't see your post till now (I have been busy), and I ended up buying it new :/ Nonetheless, your How To will help me out tremendously!

I'm planning on labeling everything as I go (well, at least I have an idea on how to do so, idk if it will be different once i get in there).

Thanks for all the advice!!! i got my part today and i'm planning on working on Ariel (my F4i) this Sat!

It'll be fine, good luck .

ProTip: A magnet on a stick is a useful tool in case you drop a socket into the inaccessible spot on top of the crankcase and behind the starter motor.
