Angry 95 F3 strange issue - need advice.

Just finished installing plugs and cleaning the K&N - now it has a slightly high idol (2,200 rpm) and breaks up at 5,000 rpm - 5,500rpm in third gear.

The bike has 37,000 miles and the air filter was so dirty it looked like i could have planted grass. Now it's breathing and fresh plugs are in and it breaks up?? The bike feels strong in 1st and does not act the same way - free rev to 9K with no problem.

anybody else have this happen?? suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks - Tom G

While you were in the air box, did you disconnect the air solenoid? Or forget to reconnect it? Before you start pulling carbs and grabbing a Dynojet kit, pop the tank and verify all your hose connections.

Hmmmm - i dont remember disconnecting anything but the plugs were kind of a pain and i could have knocked something loose i guess. I didnt go any farther than the air filter for fear of something like this. i will double check the connections to make sure something like that is not right in front of me. do any of you whink it could be because of the almost 40,000 carbs and now they are finally getting air?

i also think i should double check the plug gap too.

Given it sounds like you've never cleaned the carbs, it's a strong possibility. But double check the easy stuff before investing a couple hours swearing

ok - just pulled the tank back off and the only thing that was still disconnected was the tube the goes from the back of the tank down to the street. this just looks like a vent tube or an overflow of some sort. what are the odds that this is the problem??

sounds like a hose issue to me... if the hoses get kinked at all, you'll have the same issues. make sure that everything is still connected, and also, make sure that there is clearances for all the hoses once the tank is down and bolted up. it used to happen to me all the time. i'd get all the bike together, go for a ride, and 2 miles later, once i started to give it some gas, it'd bog down and break up on me. i'd nurse it home, and it'd be either a kinked or disconnected hose.

Thanks for the help guys - I took the whole bike apart again and checked all of the tubes, hoses, and wires. I didnt find anything else so i gapped the plugs to 0.35 and the problem has gone away. the carbs still need to be cleaned but it runs now and the weather is nice so thats a project for the winter.
