Split Seat Conversion Question
I have an 05 F4i and I'm debating whether or not to go for the split seat conversion. It seems pretty pricey.
I was wondering if the 01-03 F4i rear cowling are the same as the 01-03 RR? The RR seems to be more popular and easier to get a hold of.
And is the battery cover and passenger pegs absolutely necessary?
Thanks!

Its pricey 'cause everyone wants to do it. No the tail fairings and seats are different between the F4i and the RR. Yes the battery tray is necessary, unless you want to rely on the cables to hold it up. lol You wont NEED the passenger pegs unless you plan on riding 2 up. You can always buy a seat cowl that covers the rear portion of the seat. I just seen one on ebay for a hundred bucks.
Battery tray is necessary because thats your under tail without that you wont have anything to hold your tail light, battery, lock for your trunk etc. I have one for sale btw.. just let me know. Also its pricey all depending where you look.. ebay your going to be spending 7-800 bucks for it. Here with patients I paid 350.
i dunno about 800...i wrecked mine and had to buy a new subframe, battery tray, tail, and rear cowl plastics and i think i only spent like 400.
rr and f4i subframes and plastics are different and wont bolt up. would have to be a custom job and its probably not worth the price you'd pay...

Stick to F4i split seat parts. Get yourself an 01-03 split seat subframe, seats, tail cowl, & various bits. NO, a battery tray isn't absolutely necessary *but* for the minor investment, it can make things much more easy to do. You can fab up your own battery tray from sheet metal/aluminum but it takes time that you might not want to spend.
When I did the conversion on my F4, it took me a little time to find all the parts but the conversion was well worth it for me, for my purposes & preferences. The conversion really is simple process & really changes the look & feel of the bike. Outside of rerouting the R/R to the L side, it really doesn't take long at all.
After the conversion, I cut off the shovel & installed a CW FE, which I highly recommend.
Good luck.
