most every boat/plain/train/bike/car has welds... lots of em. I agree with dave ls1 (and it seems zmds and chuckbear do too)

cut and weld. it will be plenty strong enough if done right.

 

Okay i quote both of these because i beleive they can both be addressed at the same time as well as easily... i beleive run away is getting at the point that worrying about the longevity of welds is something one must always worry about and think about....esp. since if his bike falls over due to a poor weld hes out some new fairings a stator cover... etc...

In my various welding classes ive learned almost all of the time (as long as you get someone who knows what they are doing) a welded section is usually stronger than the base welded material

Now i do beleive this stand can easily be welded... as long as you do it at the bottom and correctly (ill state what i feel is correctly below)... taking a section out of the middle is a horrible idea....

BUT

I agree with both sides.... In a sense that his whole bike staying up does depend on that stand so dont get chincy with it...

Take is somewhere thats going to throw a good SOLID WELD ALL THE WAY AROUND not just a tach. or a crappy stick job.... and make sure you cut the flat bottom part off and cut back from there... because thats the only place it can be 100% safely done do to there being about 0 pressure on the weld itself...

 

ill trade you, my side stand leans my bike over much lower

The OP says his bike isn't lowered? Any thoughts on why is it standing so upright on the kickstand?

 

my only guess would be the stand isnt going all the way forward like its supposed to other than that.. a defective kick stand... bc there isnt really anything else that could be wrong lol ...

... because i can take it to my friends shop and weld... mig/tig... as much as i want for the price of FREE and I dont have to wait around with a bad stand.... lol sorry had to throw in a smiley

seriously though ive never hear of a defective stand... so only thing that really can be wrong is that its not going all the way forward... or it has to have been lowered b4 the op got it....<---- my bet is there
