Default Shifting Question/Observation

After 3 yrs. of riding this bike and listening to the tranny "clunk" up-shifting through the first 3 or 4 gears I finally got it to shift smooth as butter. I don't know if this is normal or if something is just out of adjustment. If I preload the shiftersignificantly before the actual shift, it slipsup into the next gear when I do shift without a sound. Perfect. No preload on the shifter and "clunk". Been riding dirt bikes for years but this is my first true street bike. Never noticed it on my dirt bikes (maybe never really paid attention). Is this normal?

Strange, I don't get any clunks when shifting any of my gears, except downshifting from 2 to 1.

3 -> 4 is always very smooth

Hmm...my ride has never clunked when up-shifting. Maybe downshifting, especially from 2nd to 1st. Maybe some of the more experienced riders can chime in.

+1...Lazy shifting never worked for me either, I have to preload and have fast hands and it is smooth.

On occasion, even with preload, mine shifts louder from 1-2 than my buddies Skirtster 883.
