Default shifting problem, need some help

lately I've come to notice that sometimes shifting into 5th gear, it will connect and pull for a second or two and then all of a sudden revs sky high like it was in neutral. It acts like its stuck in between gears....

Anyone have any ideas, advice, the solution? THe first and second time it happened I took it as a fluke, maybe I didnt give it a good shift. Yesterday and today when i happened Im positive that something is wrong...
I've changed my shift techniques to get a solid shift and its still happening...

Sounds like either the shift dogs are rounded off or the shift fork is bent. If this is the case, it won't be cheap to fix because it'll require an extensive teardown.

Well hopefully it's not THAT serious... but if it is, then good luck getting it fixed up.

A couple years ago I had similar problems with my bike. It usually happened from 5 to 6 but every now and then it did that from 4 to 5. They told me at the shop that 6th gear is so tall that it really isn't necessary unless you're at mach 2! (I was shifting into 6th when I was only at 60 mph +/-.) So what they meant was, unless my rpms were above 8k then I might as well stay in the lower gear. Haven't had a problem since...

Dunno if that's your problem as well, but it's a cheaper fix than rippin' the bike apart!

i think you just need to readjust the shifter arm because that is not usually a place that the is bad to shift.
