Default Rough gear change

'02 F4i with 11,000 miles. Transmission is rough when upshifting from 2nd to 3rd. It's usually after the bike is warm (10-20 minutes riding time). When I'm accellerating through the gears I'll blow the third shift almost every time. If I kick extra hard it might go in or if I release the foot lever completely and fully kick in the gear it'll go in. All the other gears I can just tap with my toe and they go in like butter. Any thoughts? Bad/worn shift fork(s)? Is this a common F4i problem? The bike is otherweise pristine and well taken care of. I can't believe it's anything serious with the transmission.

Thanks in advance,

Blair

What type of oil are you running in it and also how many miles does it have on the oil change before it starts gettin pissy with ya? I only have a problem just before it is actually time to change my oil. Mine is usaully 1st to 2nd that is the pain.

Do you do alot of second gear wheelie's. Second gear is often the one that gets the most abuse, which could translate to rough shiftinng. I also have problems with first to second like formula stated, but that is probably operator error more than anything mechanical.

Hi,

Bike only alledgedly has 500-1000ksince last change with synth oil. I've since done another oil change with Amsoil and am waiting for the weather to improve before re-insuring. The bike has never been wheelied (to my knowledge).
