Question Rising RPM's

Hi All, Hope someone can point me in the right direction. I have a 2005 F4i and a problem came up a few weeks ago. When the bike is first started cold the idle rpm is quite low. After a minute or so the idle rpm's start rising and rising, I'm talking sometimes all the way to 5000 rpm. Which of coarse is way to high even for warming up. It starts to go back down when it hits about 187 deg. It isn't as bad when started after being somewhat warm. It started doing this after it sat in the rain one day. I'm pretty mechanically inclined as I work on copiers all day but I don't want to keep throwing parts at it to figure it out. Any direction or anyone that had this problem before would be greatly appreciated. Thanks P

What temps are you talking about in cold starts?
When I start mine near 0 degrees C it gets up above 3-4k rpms.

What are you warm idle rpms?
It should be +/- 1300 rpm.

In all honesty if it doesn't do that everytime I doubt you have much to worry about..
