It doesn't seem like you have to cut that much of the cover off to reverse the linkage.

just do what i did. i put the shifter off my dirt bike onto my f4i's main link at the motor . the dirtbikes shifter goes on backwards but it changed the bike from 1 down rest up to 1 up rest down
What dirtbike and we need PICS
ok the dirtbike is an offbrand ..its a viva 125cc ...all the parts i buy for it are for the honda 250cc ...stock or aftermarket...ill take pics once i get my cam fixed again..

easy as cake to do, flip it around and take some time to adjust the lever just be careful. my dumb *** decided to stick my finger around the chain and clean the grease caked up and bam sharp as edge sliced my finger open like a piece of meat and started to bleed. i was piested. but now i like it seems like smoother shifting and a lil better feel. i would recomend this for everyone. o and the cutting of the plastic is minimal. heres some pics how i cut mine

and yes they do look sweet
