Default Resistor Install Question

Hey Guys could you please help me out?
I am installing a new hotbodies undertail and LED's and was told I needed to install a pair of 8 ohm / 20 watt resistors. I went to radio shack and purchases 2 resistors one for each side in the rear. My question(s) is do you install the resistor inline on each "hot" turn signal leg. I have the turn signal wire from the bike and the turn signal wire from the LED can I just solder each of the wires to opposite ends of the resistor? How hot does the resistor get and can I shrink wrap it and it not melt something? How did you guys do yours? I know many of you have done this and I just want to make sure mine is safe and doesnt melt anything! Thanks!!!

You have to wire it in just like a light. One side to pos & the other side to neg. The resistor will get warm, but it shouldn't get hot enough to melt anything. Shrink wrap shouldn't be a problem.

I never understand why you wouldn't just buy an LED electronic flasher for your bike. I did that on mine and for a few bucks you plug it in and youre done.. Forget the resistors...

I assume you want to slow down the flash rate.. Io put the diodes in so that my flush mounts work like the stock 3 ways signals.

Just a thought...p

Turbulenz,

Thanks for the idea! I hadnt seen anyone on here mention that. I would really prefer to do that and not worry about any heat issues!! Where did you get your LED Electronic Flasher? Where is the stock one located so I can look into swiching them out? Thanks again to everyone that posted on this to help me out. I really appreciate it!

I got mine from Motorcyclegear DMP LED Flasher Relay / Resistor :: MotorcycleGear.com

On the f4 (pretty sure it's the same on the f4i) it's on the right hand side under the tail fairing towards the rear.. Plugs right in and I even got the stock rubber hanger to work with it.

Thanks! My bike is a 2005 f4i. I was thinking it was behind the headlight for some reason. I will check the rear sub frame first.

You can get an LED flasher relay at SuperbrightLEDS for a little under $9. Click on the link and scroll down the page for the motorcycle applications. I have the LF1-S-FLAT on my '08 1000RR. The plug fits the stock connector perfectly.
