I just replaced my -1/+2 setup with a stock one, and now I'm getting a knocking sound. I double checked the chain tension to see if that was it. The chain had relaxed a bit and had more play than at first, but I'm still getting the knocking after taking in the slack. Does the chain just need to be broken in or something?

 

That is not normal... I am assuming you replaced everything with new. If not, the chain and/or sprocket(s) could be bad.

Did you:

Grease the axle before reinstalling it?

Properly lube the chain?

Install the master link correctly?

Clean the output shaft and counter sprocket housing before installing new?

Torque everything to spec?

The only things I can think of at the moment...

 

In addition to the above recommendations...

Is your rear wheel aligned properly in the swingarm?

 

Yep, and also is your front sprocket definitely on correctly?

 

If you installed the chain yourself, I'd bet that you have overtorqued or incorrectly used the chain tool when installing the master link causing a stiff link. Get the rear wheel off the ground, find exactly where the noise is coming from and see if it happens at certain parts of the chain, certain parts of the sprocket etc to identify it.

Make sure you also torque the rear sprocket down in a star formation a few extra Nm at a time until you get them all down fully.
