Removing the Axle Nut
I got a new license plate bracket that attaches itself to the rear axle. To install it, I need to remove the axle nut. From what I understood in the service manual, the axle nut on 06 f4i is on the right side (when you are sitting on the bike) and the bolt is 18mm. However, when I tried to use my 18mm socket, damn thing wont fit. Neither does the 19mm socket. Anyone got any ideas as to which socket size I should get (because now I will have to go out and buy one).
Also, if I remove the axle nut, will the tire come off? The bike is sitting on a rear stand with the tire lifted up.

just removing the nut wont take the wheel off
which is why probably the plate is to be installed on the nut side of it
remember to torque it back to the right spec using a torque wrench

But I wanted to install it on the left side (the non nut side). I wanted the bracket to also act as a chain guard. I would basically have to remove the bolt on the left side. Will the tire come out then?
i have the same bracket on my 02 f4i. also acts as a nice chain guard. go to this post for pics, go to rear pic of bike.
