Default Question about Helmets

How tight should a helmet be on my face? I went and tried on some Shoei and HJC helmets and i loved the Shoei...anyway...the guy said i needed a medium but when i tried that on, it was tight and squishing my cheeks. he said it would loosen up...now when i put on the large, it felt good, but im not sure if it will be too loose. So my ? is, are they supposed to be really tight, or comfortable, and do they really get that much bigger with wear??

They are pretty tight at first, I have an HJC and when I first got it last November i was chewing gum and riding the bike at the same time(amazing I know) but I kept biting my cheek if that gives you an idea. It does loosen up though. It is already much more comfortable.

do a search on how to measure your head correctly. Do that, and then check what helmet size you are for whatever brand..
More important that the helmet fits your skull properly..

I had the same issue with my Shoei RF-1000. Large was too small XL was too big. Shoei does sell replacement cheek pads to make the helmet better fit your face.

I just the the most incredible helmet EVER. got an ARAI RX-7 Corsair "Hayden Wired" Black.

Yea it'll be tight for a little while, but it will break in and be much more comfy. It's still gotta stay snug though, if it's loose enough to move around easily, it's not going to properly protect your head in a crash. All of mine hurt to put on and take off for the first week or two, then they were perfectly comfortable. Just make sure it actually fits your head shape... different brands and models of helmets fit different shapes of heads. Certain ICON and HJC helmets just flat out don't fit my head, too tight in the forehead, and actually gave me a headache after awile. I had to pull over and take it off for awile cuz it hurt too much. My Shoei RF-1000 fits me like it was custom made just for my head... soooo comfortable, I love it!!
