Default Question about frame slider hole

Hello all,

Well from going down recently, I have decided that I am going to buy some frame sliders and install them myself. I decided to go with Vortex.

I have a quick question about the hole after the installation. What is good to use as something to cover the hole when I am finished to make it look better?

I've read a lot of the threads about doing the job and won't make the hole too big. I know I don't have to cover the hole, but I just want a nice tight look and would rather cover the hole.

Does anyone know what is a good product to use for the slider hole and where can I buy it?

Thanks.

Since your bike is black, I would go by the hardware store and pick up some black rubber tubing (like 1/4"). Cut one side of it down the middle, and place it aroung the hole, like a gromet. Maybe put some silicone in it to hold it in place & keep the dirt out.

Incog is on the right track... but you dont wanna "honkey rig" it. Go to the local auto parts store and get that crap that goes on the door edge (usually chrome, but may come in colors) and I think it has some kinda adhesive in it too.

You would be better off just getting a gromet the right size and using that.

If you do it right, you can cut a hole that's JUST big enough, and it can look almost like it's stuck to the outside of the fairing.

Either way, if you tape the fairing so the paint/decals don't rip or anything, it looks just fine and dandy when you're done. The black ABS plastic underneath isn't really noticeable unless you look for it.

Thanks for the replies.

I'll check out some of my local auto shops and see if they sell the weather stripping. I know they have the rubber hoses.

Does anyone know where I can buy some rubber grommets? They look like it would be a nice clean look after install!

Thanks again.

Heres a pic of mine, just drill the right size ( i think it was 1 7/8s hole saw not sure though) then just trim it a little bit at a time with a knife or razor blade if its not quite a good fit then just put it on. Should be around 1-2mm gap between the fairing and slider.

Thanks for the info.

I'll try it and see what happens. I am always just thinking ahead as a 'just-in-case' precaution. I just purchased a full set of hole saws and will only go just a tad bit larger than the slider itself for any imperfections.

I'll let you know of my results after I try later this week/next week.

Thanks.
