So I can get my hands on power commander that isn't PCIII for a little cheaper and i'm figuring there basically the same thing and this ones just an earlier model. Will it work just as well as the PCIII?

I have the PCIII (not usb).

It works great and does the job. It just dosent have the ability to attach all the bells and whistles later on. If you want to be able to install the ignition module and quickshifter, then you want the USB. If you are like me, and don't really care about the extra toys then the PCIII is a lot cheaper.
