Actually, I read the entire thread before posting, as I usually do. Your question was answered earlier and your explanation was sufficient.

What came as a result was an identification of something that could get you into a lot of trouble.

No, I don't gas and slam brakes at a light. However I don't clutch until the revs are low enough to require it. You can roll the gas off and the bike will slow more efficiently and in a controlled manner.

Only reason I brought it up is that if you fix the habit now it will save you much headache in the future.

To each his own.

Thanks for the reply. I am confused by what the earlier person said in the thread...He said that would be the gears rubbing...but..if I have the clutch pulled in..can the gear still grind?? It hasn't done it again in a while..it kinda happens when I downshift thru the gears really fast..maybe I'm not pressing it hard enough..its very hard to induce the sound

Yes, the gears still grind. I guess you're used to driving manual cars. It's not like a car's transmission.

It sounds like your clutch isn't fully disengaging itself. AKA, it's fine to shift into most gears but when you're shifting into the lowest gear you have (1st) it's not fully disengaging itself all the time so it's like shifting without the clutch at all. That's just my $.02.

True, but there's no way to correct it. The gears are always spinning and the ratio between 1st to 2nd is the largest difference.
