Default how often are you actually supposed to get oil changed?

Is it by mileage or by riding seasons?

I'd recommend about every 3,000 to 5,000 miles. If you use the synthetic oils you may be able to get more miles between oil changes. Depends on the quality of the oil. If you do a lot of hard riding (racing perhaps?) then change it more frequently than every 3-5k miles.

Season doesn't matter much.

Mileage or time. I prefer every 3,000 miles or every 3 months, whatever comes first.

I change mine every 3k miles, and after anytime the bike sits for over a month.

Beginning of season; every 3K or long gap<6 WEEKS+> between rides; end of season.

Oo, good point about the gap between rides. I should change mine, it's been sitting about a month now.

Yep. Oil becomes acidic as it ages and corrodes and pits the internal surfaces. If your bike has been sitting, buy some el-cheapo regular car oil (non-energy conserving) drain old oil (leave old filter) and run cheap oil to coat the internal parts for a few minutes. Drain and change filter as normal.

I change mine every 3,000 miles, since that almost always comes before 3 months.

Gotta love Florida and the 12-month riding season that we have
