Default Play in sidestand?

This is for my F4, but the F4i is the same and this forum seems to get more traffic...

I never noticed this, but my sidestand seems to have some play in it in and out.. I can move it maybe 1/4inch or so it seems (measured at the end). I cannot remember if it had this play in it before.. maybe it was tighter? I took a vid of it that I will upload in a bit....

The mounting bolts and the the lower nut all seem tight..
Any ideas welcome...
Adam

I believe, mine does that, but only when it's up. I've never had any problems with it.

I'd assume its to compensate for a slight change in elevation wherever you park it, but I'm not sure. I'd think it shouldn't move.

I found a video where someone used heavy grease to grease up the spring in the sidestand because it felt like it had started to lose tension.. and in this video it claimed that it had much more 'spring' in it.. I wonder if there is any truth to that...

I just don't want the bike to fall.. both because I dont want it to drop and I don't want it to drop on my car that is parked right behind...

Hmm.. so yours has that much movement then? It holds the bike up fine.. just wanted to be sure... I bought grease today, and I will pack it in the pivot to see if it snaps up and down nicely... man I wish I could remember if it was like this before... would make things so much easier..

I packed some heavy grease into the pivot... it springs beautifully now to the up and down position... but another guy just told me that his doesnt do that... yet jonld says its normal.. can anyone else chime in? Like I said... I might be worrying excessively, but the last thing I need is for a worn side stand to let the bike drop especially when it sits this winter.... thanks guys/gals.

Yep, it's 100% normal. I've never met a bike that didn't do that.
