Default over reving

I have a problem, when ever i am riding, say in sixth gear, and i punch it the rpms jumpup but i do not go faster. Its is like the rpms fly up and the speed of the bike tries to catch up. I have a 2001 f4i, no major mods just exhaust, air filter, and different gears. Can anyone tell me what is going on.
Thank you.

It only happens in 6th gear? IF it is the clutch, which I also think it might be, wouldn't it happen in other gears as well?

Well, this happens in all the gears, but the bike as low miles. The bike was sitting for half a year, it the clutch was fine before it was sitting. Does any one know of a good clutch to replace it.

really sounds like your clutch is slipping...if not, maybe clogged injectors...usually the two things that contribute to late delay or "slugishness"...your chain properly lubed and tightened?

welcome to the world of slipage . easy fix. you can get barrett or dp clutch set that is a great replacement for the stock setup. if you have to replace then might as well replace with something that is better than OEM.

KEvin; when the clutch starts to slip, it's difficult to tell at lower gears. When you can feel it at alll of the gears then you reached that level where it much be replace. Slipage is noted first at higher speeds and not just higher rmps.

what oil are you running?
before you go and shell out bling for a clutch...check the oil compatibility first...in case you or someone else dumped energy conserving oil in it.

as for replacement...i'd just go with stock.
aftermarket clutches are not 'better' per se, just depends on what you're doing with the bike. if you are just riding around town, occasional track, etc...then stock is the way to go.
