Default OVER REVING

Gday guys, Ive noticed that afterIve popped a whellie, a coupla times Iveseen the rev warning light on and the bikes revving into thered zone. Sure these bikes can take a bit of thrashing and was just wondering if anyones done any internal damage from over reving? My bike still performs ok but surely this cant be good!

I've hit the rev limiter about a million times, haven't done any damage but I wouldn't do it on purpose. Just happens every once in a while when I'm goofing around and get a little over zelous. Your rev limiter should cut the ignition spark when it gets too high, if not ou may run into problems

Mellow, you say you hit the rev limiter! exactly at what rpm does this kick in? I've spotted the tacho reading well into the red but no limiter. Ive read the manual searching for info about this but only speaks about the warning light!
Could this possibly be a difference between the American and Aussie/Euromodel???

Hitting the rev limiter once in a while is ok, but hitting the limiterduring in a wheelie while the engine is starved of oil is not...

If your up in the air and riding out a wheelie learn to shift while doing so. there is a film about that somwhere on the net. up on one I beleiveis the site.

I beleive it is at 15,000 I could be wrong needle starts to bounce when it hits, but that is about where it is. Rev limiter is designed to keep you from over reving the bike and ruining rods, internal organsand what not, I think they set it low enough that you should be safe from harming the engine if you are not just holding down the gas..I asume this is why all of the GP races you can see and here backfire, the rev limiter is kicking in.. not sure tho..I would check it out, not sure if that thing has a fuse or switch or somthing that could disable it. I have heard of people doing something todisable them to get a few more RPMs but I think that would be a very BBBAAADDDidea, ifyou bought itused maybe somone tinkered with it...mine is an 03 rr they may be set differentif yours is newer, I'm not sure what the RPMs go to on newer ones but the cycle makers are always trying to get more RPMsout of their bikes.Ask somone with the same year bike they would know, I don't know anyone that hasn't hit theirs at least by accident, or missing an upshift so everyonce in a while is OK.

Found this on line
By placing a second showerhead fuel injector as far from the intake tract as possible, vaporization time is maximized, exposing it to the turbulent mixture of the intake flow. This also cools the airflow, resulting in a denser charge and yielding more power. The conventional injectors located in the main throttle body allow for razor sharp throttle response below 5,500rpm. Above 5,500rpm, the showerhead injectors deliver fuel an instant before the conventional injectors, allowing the RR to deliver strong power all the way to the 15,000rpm redline.

I woudn't say that it's okay, but if it only happens a few times you should be fine. Bouncing the engine off it's rev limiter on a regular basis will eventually start causing some problems.

Thanks guys , your input has put my mind at ease- for now. I did buy the bike new but will be making further enquiries in to where my limiter is! I have revved the bike to atleast 16k. I'll check out the fuses first I guess.
As for changing gears while doing a wheelie, Im a *****. I'll check out the site- thanks Mellow.
