There is always a risk with anything that you take to the max.
Apart from being a total waste of fuel & time, nothing says "Hey I am Dick" better, apart from standing under a big flashing Neon sign with an arrow saying "Hey I'm Dick".

Its definitly not good for your bike. Doing it for long periods of time could cause damage to various engine internals.

Its pretty much pointless but if you think it makes you look cool then keep on keepin on.

Back in the old days of carbed bikes it was often necessary to blip the throttle here and there to keep it from dying when it was cold. Not red line but a blip here and there.

Apart from seeming like male anatomy there is definite risk in revving your bike to the limiter with no load. One day you'll hear a tic tic tic after pulling on the throttle a bit too enthusiastically while in neutral and that will be your sign to have the valves examined.

I think that as long as you don't over do it (do not go full rpm) or for too long it is good for all corroborated engines to "open up" every now and then. Sorta flushes the carbs i thought.

What does revving in neutral have to do with clutch?

I believe revving in high in neutral is ok for a short period of time.
The main issue I can think about is heat. If its a hot day and your just sitting there revving 12k+ for couple minutes I am pretty sure something will give.

I would think that is the case when the engine is under load, but not as much in neutral in a stationary position. With no load, its a whole lot of parts moving very fast with no resistance. Bikes aren't built for that. Also, I would bet that it is much worse for an engine that hasn't been allowed to properly warm up.

I'll echo the sentiment of others here that it really helps to make you look like a tool more than anything. Not remotely worth the risk of the damage you do to your bike imo. You can always go to a bike show and watch some jackass wreck his ride instead of doing it to your own.

There's always plenty of guys like this who are ready to wreck their bike for your amusement.

It's really not good to rev ANY gasoline motor to near redline for any length of time just to hear it scream or bang off the rev limiter. At those kind of rpms, it really needs to be under a load.
