Default Oil plug / washer

I just got a bike, as you can see from my sig
Anyways, I noticed it was leaking oil VERY slightly, then upon inspection I notice that the drain plug has a crappy wal-mart style metal washer above it, there is no drain washer....Is there any type of washer I can use that is better then this crappy metal one?

The oil drain bolt has a metal washer under it stock. People frequently reuse them, and it might even say in the manual that you can (a couple of times).

The washer gets compressed/warped by the preasure, and next time it won't sit perfectly flat. The time after even less... until eventually it leaks. Some people tighten it more when it leaks, then they strip their threads.

They cost $0.15 at the dealership. I replace mine EVERY time I change the oil because they are cheap, especially compared to the cost of the oil/filter/bike's engine.

So - the short answer. They are metal and flat stock, replace them everytime. Not an expensive part to have a few of, just in case you forget to grab one with your filter.

I agree with Woot, I replace mine every time and have not had a leaking issue with my 1995 when i had it or 2004 which i have now. Its a cheap partfor cheap insurance so you dont wind up leaking oil.

I think the actual plus is right. but the washer isn't right, it's just too out of place compared to other F4i's that I have seen. I didn't know it was so inexpensive from the dealership. I will have to call my honda dealer and get a few ordered. Since we are talking about oil crap, any personal opinions on oil / filters?
I have always used Honda oil and filters and it's never done me wrong, any comments?
Thanks for the help as always guys

You're opening up a can of worms by asking that.

Here's a good oil & filterrelated article [sm=proof.gif]http://motorcycleinfo.calsci.com/Consumables.html

Mind you it's just an article, and not words to live by; but interesting nonetheless. I think as long as it's motorcycle specific and it's performedregularly, you can't go wrong. Regardless of which brand you decide to use.
