Default Oil change Question

Is it absolutely necessary that I place the bike on a rear stand to do my oil change?

I really need to change it, someone told me that maybe why my bike is overheating a little cuz the oil is super thick and black already probably. It's worth a shot, and my last oil change was several thousand miles ago... due for a change now.

If my bike is leaning on it's side stand, will the oil not flow out fully or something?

Should flow out just fineleaning on the side stand, my oppinion with a bike stand it lifts the bike up a little more so you can get a drain pan under the bike easyer. Now my bike 93 F-2 the drain plug is forward same side as the stand, sure they are all designedthat way. If you got alot of gunk in the oil you might try an oil flush along with you oil change, what kind of filter and oil are you using ? [8D]

its possible that its over heating due to bad/really old oil.you can leave you bike on the kick stand and take out the drain bolt. let the oil drip out of there and after like 5 minutes of draining, you can straighten out the bike and take it off the stand just to make sure most of the old oil is out.

I just did an oil change without a stand.. let it sit on the kick stand for about 5 minutes... then hop on the bike and straighten it out to make sure the rest of the old oil flows out

I did my first one without a stand, the plastic drain pan barely fit under the bike, but then it kinda melted on the pan because it was hot... Yes you can, but watch out it's hot under there. Check your coolant level too if you are over heating? Mine regularly goes into fan blowing when I'm in stop and go rush hour traffic, maybe that's not a good thing, but I think that's just what a high performance motor does, it runs hot! But that's good because engines have a performance hit if they run cold i.e. < 180* or something like that.
