Notchy throttle

I'm also a n00b with just 40 miles on his recently acquired 2004 cbr 600 f4i... I've ridden curisers before and I easily noticed a "notchy" response of the throttle. In the past, on a cruiser... I would accelerate and then leaving the throttle would be just fine... but on this cbr it seems like I have to keep twisting the throttle a little bit or its as if I am pressing on the break... the bike actually slows down.... is this normal?

Once you begin moving, you shouldn't need the clutch anymore. Control your speed and your line with your right hand. It's not an on/off switch and it doesn't coast like a car. You'll need to keep some throttle on.
Slipping the clutch, ah now that's a different thing. A skill that is useful below 5mph.

I am going to see if boosting fuel at 0% throttle on the Power Commander across the rev range will soften the off/on abruptness. By trickling some fuel on closed throttle I'm hoping to fix this and get the feel of a carbed bike. Feel free to try this guys and let me know what happens- I cant get into the 3r p. commander on my bike- wont upload map but reads rpm, t. pos.

I was able to finally upload the map in the P.C. to my computer and access the grid- for some reason the software wouldnt "wake-up" until I loaded a prefab map into it. All the cells were "x'd" out. Jaybird, do you know if the ignition feature of the 3R works on the F4i? I'm going to test-ride it now with +2 fuel at 0% Throttle Pos. Ignition Retard at 0 and 2% throttle (ala the new CBR1000) might soften the transition too...

It's been awhile since I looked at mine and IIRC, mine were all set to 0 (zero). It was recommended to me to not fool with Ignition unless I have more extensive engine mods. And considering that I don't have a clue about what to do with it I took that advice. But if you know what you're doing...go for it!
Like you, I'm willing to experiment a little with fuel I just haven't...I tried a couple maps. I hope you can save me 300 beans on a custom map. I'll just go back to the one the previous owner used....maybe that was a custom map (???)

Havent had any success with smoothing the abrupt off/on throttle response. I tried adding +2(what are these dimensions? milliseconds?)at 0, 10 and finally 20 at 0% and 2% only was able to make it run like crap at +20...
retarded timing at 0 by -20, barley ran, tried -5 at 0, 2% and it didnt rev cleanly. no improvement in off/on resp. at all...
The new 600RR bleeds extra air/fuel in when the throttles are closed to reduce braking and smooth response- it works well. Maybe this is the only way.
