RE: no fuel gauge on 02 F4i
The F4i does not have a fuel gauge. It has a reserve gauge which comes on when there is 0.9 gal remaining in the tank, and will start off as 4 solid bars, then as you keep going, one by one they will start flashing until all 4 are flashing, indicating you need to fill up soon

yea, supposable its suppose to turn on when there is .9 gallons left but the two times ive filled mine up ive put in 3.8 gallons, and 3.6 gallons... so it can vary a little.
i just asked this question about 3 weeks ago so yea there is nothing on the indicator that says how much gas there is, but it will pop up vertically on the left side

No, it makes perfect sense. Gas gauges are controlled by something floating in the tank, which measures the current level. Haven't you ever been in your car and wondered why it said you had more gas when you were going down a steep hill or something?
There's no point in having them when a motorcycle is constantly joshing around all the liquid inside the tank. The gauge would be throwing different values every five seconds if you were out having a good time.

You fill it up to prevent the tank from rusting during the winter, it is also supposed to reduce the amount of condensation that collects in the tank during storage.
Reserve lights up when you have about 1Gal - should be able to get 30-40 miles on that. - It's about the same as your car's low fuel light... - If they did a full gauge, it would make the bike heavier, more complex, and just be more to break - the miles you drive on a tank stay relatively static so you should already have an idea how much is left...
