Default New question....old question?

New member with an old question. Just read through the last 20 pages of posts
and did a search. First I have had the F4I for about three weeks and love it! Before
I got it the newest bike I had ridden was the 1969 Honda 750's...so it was quite a
change/improvements. I still haven't gotten used to the low speed handling, and at
64 years old, I will never come close to testing the top end! It seems like it is very
easy to hit the stops on the clipons during low speed maneuvering..

The question...I find the mirrors to be useless to see behind you....great for adjacent
lanes though. Having been rear ended three times in cars, I like to see what is behind
me...especially when stopped. There might me the rare chance that I can get out of the
way of the brainless cagers on cell phones.

I've tried all the adjustments and mimicing an ape with arms bowed seems a bit
primitive!

One of the prior posts mentioned replacement posts that yield one to two inch
improvements, but I can't find them on Ebay..etc. Blocks that move the existing ones
out would not be as desirable.

I may be looking for clipon risers also....I seem to ride with too much weight on the
grips. NO...not a death grip.

Appreciate any suggestions...product mentions..thanks!

Jim

The mirrors on sport bikes are the best design in the world... to pass the legal limits of your state. They are there just for looks, or should I say to pass your state requirement.

I know what you mean about stopping at lights. I've adopted the highway patrol method of stopping at lights. By highway patrol, I mean the way they pull behind a car on the highways at an angle. This gives me two things. First, if I get hit, I have a chance of being knocked to the sides so I'm not the meat in a car sandwich. Second, it lines my mirrors up so I can see what's happening behind me.

Oh, welcome to the forum.

Well. What I did is went to WalMart and bought some convex mirros and placed them right above my vent covers, on the back side of my front fairing, next to the headlight housing. Those help me see behind me, and I use the others for the sides

Welcome and good question. I had the same problem when I first started riding. Don pretty much hit the nail on the head though I'm afraid.Their location isn't optimal for actually using them!

When I need to take a peak, I usually have to shift my body a bit AND tuck my elbow into my side - only then can I see directly behind me.

Just ride with your head on a swivel and you'll be fine!!!

There is a company that sells machined AL risers for the mirrors. Since I'm at work and don't have the info here, I'll try and find it tonight when I get home.

Check Ebay they have them for every kind of bike. They are a 1 inch spacer.
They work and look great with stock mirrors. I had a pair, but I changed to carbon fiber
mirrors and they did not match.

Good tip about the riser/1 inch spacers... I'd like to see them on a bike.
