Default Need help with buying my first CBR

Hello, I am new to the riding community and I am looking to get a f4i as my first bike. I did take the MSF course and I used to race dirt bikes so I do know how to ride, and I am conservative of power.
I found a 01 F4i for sale in my town, it was layed down taking off from a stop sign so the plastics are scrapped up on the right side. The bike its self runs great and shifts great. However what worries me the most is that the bolts that i believe hold the forks to the tipple tree and the aftermarket steering damper are all scrapped up and looks like they were dragged on the road. My biggest question is how the hell would that happen, was the bike flipped? The title is clean and it is not salvaged. He is asking 2900 obo with 14k miles on the bike. Do you think that is a good deal?

2900 with needing new fairings is way too high. They book at around 2600. I would talk him down to at least 2200. Maybe offer 21, hoping he'll come down to 22

The thing that worries me the most is that the triple tree is all scared up almost like it was flipped over and skid on the road upside down

I'd pass. Too many fish in the sea.

At that price you should be getting a clean bike.
Sure the usual minor tweaks, but no road rashes.
If you are a wrencher, offer 1200 to 1800, tops.

I agree with everyone just find something else or offer him pennys for the bike. I bought my first bike 3 months ago from a guy in phoenix it was 00 cbr600 f4 with 28k on it. Side fairings was missing and the rest of them was pretty beat and had cracks. got the bike for 2k. Still trying to decide if it was a good deal or not haha. But for just a beginner bike it wont break the bank.
