Need a 520 Conversion kit

RE: Need a 520 Conversion kit
Cool.
I am wondering what kind of chain to get? I just put on a brand new -1 steel sprocket on the front. I was wondering if I should just get a +2 for the back and a new chain. If so, should I get a chain that requires me to rivet it, or can I go with the type that uses a master link?
Any recommendations?

well we all know what i recommend...DID...if you get an RK, i just hope you haven't had the issues that we've had.
you are already running a 520 chain right? if not, your new sprocket up front will not fit a 520 chain...and you'll need to get all 520 parts.
as far as up 2 more in the back, if -1 up front isn't good enough for you, then go with the +2 in the rear. it will rev a bit higher than it does now on the freeway so if you do a lot of freeway/highway speed riding, may not be good.
master link refers the link that connects the chain together. it can either be a clip on or rivet. clip on type 'may' come off. i know of people who use them and have had no problems. if you install the clip on, make sure the open part faces the back of the bike when the link is on the top of travel. also put some high temp RTV or something under the clip to make sure it doesn't fling off. i personally would go with rivet.

RE: Need a 520 Conversion kit
I am considering just getting a 525 sprocket for the back that is 1 or 2 teeth up, to go with the 1 tooth down front sprocket that I already installed.
What tools am I going to need to remove the old chain and install a new one? And I am assuming that I cannot add a larger rear sprocket with the current chain? It is the stock chain that came with the bike, and so far all I have done is put a -1 sprocket up front. Could I use the existing chain if I just put a +1 on the back?

check this out in regards to chain size

as far as tools for removing the chain, you can buy a chain cutter and press tool or you can use a dremel to remove the old chain.
as far as install, the chains come in 120 links so you have to cut down to the length you need. remember they are always even number of links.
if you don't have the chain press too, you can dremel the rivet heads off the links and then use a punch to punch out the rivet. to install the the rivet type master link, you'll need to have the press tool (some are just press tools, not cutter, etc.).

RE: Need a 520 Conversion kit
From reading that other thread, I think I will go +1 on the back for a -1 +1(15/47) config. That should allow me to use the existing chain.
My last question, is can I get the rear wheel off and put the new sprocket on without taking apart the factory chain? I have a stand for the bike, so can I drop the tire down and take the chain off while keeping it intact?
