mushy clutch??

I'd guess you might need to adjust the freeplay in the cable. Or the clutch material itself is pretty worn.
Since he brought it up and seems to know a thing or two about motorcycles make him answer that.
I will tell you that I just picked up 2003 CBR 600 F4i with 10,000 miles on it. The clutch on it locks up like a vice. Much stronger and more sure than my hydrolically driven clutch on my VFR.

If it's a wire-cable, to me mushy means frayed and ready to snap. After a couple of the wires in the cable break, the rest start to stretch. This gives it a sort of 'soft' feel,
instead of a crisp-break feel. It could be the cable is just binding from lack of lubrication, but that's more like a handshake with that macho-asshat at work.
Easiest fix, try a cable-luber and spray lube. If that doesn't work, replace the cable.
If he's talking the action of the clutch, itself...I'd put my bet on worn plates and/or springs. It's a pain, but not difficult, as wrenching goes.
Hope this gives you a direction, Ern
