Default low rpm tick....

I have had my bike for a week now. '02 f4i, just 1400 miles when i picked it up. After a couple day's I noticed that there is a slight ticking noise(coming from the engine obviously) up to about 3500rpm's when taking off. Oil is fine. However, I have yet to get an oil change on it. Any ideas? Is this normal? I'm hoping I look like a dumbass and it's not a big deal. lol.

does it go away once you hit 4 or 5k RPM? My bike ticks between 5000 and 5500 rpm. purrs like a kitten once I get to 6. It's harmless, yet annoying as all hell.

1400 miles does sound low for a CCT replacement, but the F4i's are notorious for the ticking.

que tahoe!

I dont know if its the CCT. I had the CCT problem but was getting the rattlebetween 5000 and 6000 rpms. The CCT is a loud rattle, not so much a tick. Your having a problem with this noise from idle to 3500 rpm's?? Im not saying it cant be the CCT, but from having this discussion in the past, and just going through the CCT experience, Im not sure that is your problem. especially with 1400 miles. Wait for a few other posts before you run out and buy a CCT.

Some amount of valve ticking (frequency around 10 or 20 ticks per second) at idle is normal. You'll hear the same thing under the hood of many cars.
