Low fuel indicator

your numbers make a bit of sense, but it doesn't work like that
the fuel sender is just a switch, after the fuel is 'low' it just activates a timer.
it has no idea how much fuel is left past the 'low' point, the bars are just a timer
if you take it easy, you can be running past the last bar by 20 minutes or more.
if you rev it hard, you could be out by the second bar
it's a pretty stupid system, they should have just put a low fuel light there. that's basically all it is, the bar graph itself is not to be trusted.

never noticed that in the manual ; you might be right
i was just basing it on rough observations about how long it takes to go down, it always seemed to be pretty much the same time remaining whether i was idling through town slowly or ripping down the highway at high speed.
it's possible that it's just incrementing a timer when speed > 0 or something?
i'm going to test it for fun when i have a chance. i have a signal generator that can fake the gauge out as far as speed goes, and i'll just jumper the fuel level switch

Yeah i usually fill up when the reserve indicator comes on and if that happen's while I'm out for a ride i know how hard i can still ride depending on far I'm off from a petrol station. I rode around for a couple of days the other week - just cruising round the Beaches and watched it tick down slowly - whereas if I'm out for a ride i know i've got to fill up in 30-40 km's and they drop down pretty quick.

I've ridden until the bars were all gone. Still only took 4.0 gallons of fuel in what is supposed to be a 4.9gallon tank. I've ridden a good 20miles past the bars being out, getting ready to grab my buddys backpack for a tow into town haha. I just figure once the bar shows up, I have 40-50miles left.
