Default Low Beam Cuts Out..

Ah yes, another one of the infamous headlight issues but, I think this situation may be a bit different than the rest, or at least the majority.

Here's the low down. I thought I had an issue with the high beam being dead in general so, after some research I checked the ignition switch (fine, clean, solders all good), and then I ordered a new relay. Overall I think it was just my error with hooking up the other HID because, I had tried the high beam socket with the working halogen low beam bulb and it worked - after I thought either my HID bulb or ballast was buggered..such was not the case.

After work tonight I finally got both HID's in and working, it felt like success..then about 10-15 seconds of having the high beam on the low beam flickers, and goes *zap* and totally cuts out. Wtf!? The only way to get the low beam to come on is to turn the ignition off and, turn the electricity back on..same problem occurs every time I turn the high beam back on - the low beam is fine alone as, I've been riding with the HID for a couple weeks now.

Any idea why this is happening? I thought HID's take less power off the battery/electricity since they have their own power source and are just generally more efficient so, the thought of things overloading isn't registering in my mind but, maybe I'm wrong?
What I haven't tried is having the whole bike/engine running while trying the HID low and high combo..but I will in the morning just in case it's some weird anomaly but, I doubt it will change any thing. The other thing I don't think I've tried is having the halogen H7 in the high beam and it being on for more than 20-30 seconds as, I don't usually ride at night or use the high beam.

Any input would be appreciated as always.

was this while riding the bike or at idle? if you are riding it you are generating more power.
but if they draw less.. regardless the ballast steps up voltage to lamp it on. I would say take it for a ride or hook a battery charger up to it and see what it does.
as long as a battery charger doesnt blow fuses, i know with my charger and bike there is no problems.

if you overloaded the system then wouldn't the fuse blow?

Rudy: I just had the electronics on, neither idle nor while riding.

mnguyen: That's what I was thinking too but, thankfully no fuses have blown as far as I know.

Yesterday morning I went for my usual ride and prior to that I let the bike idle, and turned the high beam on..every thing seems fine now. I'm thinking that perhaps there just wasn't enough power flowing through the previous night.
