Default Complete Oil Filter List

Just a little comprehensive list I use to use thanks to the good people at HondaShadow.net

Not only does it have a variety of listed motorcycle and workable car filters for most every model of the CBRs up until '03 but, it has a large list of other manufacturers and models for varying years - for what looks like up until 2007.

Motorcycle Oil Filter Cross Reference

have 20 x 1.5mm threads,

Honestly I'm not entirely sure what makes the recommended ones "superior" to the first in the list, I would assume they are just more efficient in their job; filtering. I would also assume the primary comparison is indeed filtering capabilities.

Turns out the F4i uses the same filters as my previous bike and, I've used a couple filters from this list on that bike and everything was golden.

Longer filters in effect increase the oil capacity of the bike as well as forcing the oil to travel threw more filter media before going to the engine.

That's a nice list of filters. The site you linked to has great information on filters as well as oil.

Longer filters in effect increase the oil capacity of the bike...
This is a good thing. More oil means it has more capacity to absorb heat to cool the engine more efficiently as well as last longer before becoming dirty.

...as well as forcing the oil to travel threw more filter media before going to the engine
I'm not so sure I agree with your statement here. The way that oil filters are made (you can look here at ones opened up), the oil from the bike enters the center portion of the filter and must pass through the filter membrane somewhere. A longer filter provides a greater surface area for the oil to pass through. This too is good. It will take a longer time for the filter to become clogged. The filter material is not set up sequentially, meaning that the oil doesn't pass through all of the filter material, but only from one side of it to the other like a membrane.

so bigger filter just means longer time without change as if the normal route gets clogged up it finds the next point of least resistance?
and speaking of good filters how does the OEM honda filter rank? i just picked one up, btw i hear the HRC filter is the same size as well.

The "longer" filter is only about a 1/2 inch longer. There is not much gain in filter media to make it worth putting the end of the filter that much closer to the hot header. I usually change the oil so frequently, that restriction shouldn't be an issue while extra heat in the oil could be. IMO....

The reality is that neither filter makes any real difference and either will be fine, but use the one that makes you feel better.

I use the Fram 6607. In the past, I would get the supertec one, but walmart no longer carries it.

I have only heard great things about the Honda Oil Filter and that it is made well. I felt safe with it on my bike but it was a pain in the *** to get off but Im not currently using it. Never heard of an HRC oil filter so I cant provide feedback on that.

Yeah Wal-Mart stopped carrying and producing a number of quality oil filters apparently , or so I heard via the Shadow guys.

I just put on a Fram PH7317 the other week as I use to use with my Shadow Spirit, seems to do the job.

CJardine: Had an OEM filter on mine as well when I did an oil change the other week..also difficult to get off. People tend to over tighten filters on their vehicles.
