Alot harder than i thought it would be. You just got to lift the tank up maybe have a friend hold it while you take the screws off the air box then just take the old one out and put the new one in. Its right underneath the tank so either take it off or spare the hassle and have someone hold it up. The air lid is also a bitch to get off even when you get the screws off but i did my swap in like 15 minutes and cant really feel much of a difference but now shes k&n charged

Pick up a Haynes or Clymer manual. That will have alot of the info you are looking for. It will be the best $30 you spend for your bike.

Take the two plastic pieces off that run by the speedo to the tank, then lift the back of the seat up and take the 2 10mm bolts off and remove seat, then you will see the two back bolts holding the tank on and the two front ones are already visible, after that lift her up and have someone hold it i didnt want to bother with disconnecting the fuel lines

and as long as your doing that it wouldnt hurt to make sure that your spark plugs are in good shape and nice and snug. I helped one of my friends change over his stock filter to a K&N on his 2000 Nine 2 Niner and 2 of his plugs were suprisingly loose. We ended up changing them out anyway, they were pretty shot. And its not a fun process by any means. If your careful the gas line will support the gas tank if you let it hang from the side of the bike. Just make sure that its close to being empty and have a rubber mat that you can place between the gas tank and the bike so that it doesnt scratch the crap out of it. You could be smarter than we were and actually take the gas tank completely off but thats a pain in the [sm=smiley35.gif].
