Just an FYI the F4i CCT's are not hydraulic, they do not use oil pressure at all. The only ones that used a hydraulic tensioner were the F2's. Everything else uses the spring loaded CCT which simply unwinds a threaded piston to push it out

Thanks for the correction I was going off from what a mechanic at the stealership had told me when mine went bad.

I ordered an oem cctl from the stealership, do you guys know if it comes with a new gasket or I would have to order that seperately?

SO here's what I've learned...the early year F4i's (01-03) seem to basically rattle FROM THE FACTORY...its hit or miss on when that stock Lifter Tip is gonna start making noise....I bought my 01 with 7000 miles on it and the CCTL was bad....I replaced it with the latest OEM Auto version and now only 3000 miles later it is rattling again at all rpm....really pissed me off....Moral of the story...just live with it (bc it does no harm) or just buy an APE....when I get annoyed enough, Ill swap for APE

just seems strange to me how your new oem cctl rattles after 3k and some people on their f4is don't have any rattles till 10k+ later. Does it have to do with the way you ride in any way? Cruise at higher rpms? Shift higher? What is it?

Luck of the draw my man...not all CCTL's are created and manufactured equal

The CCTL tip has been rattlin for more than a decade on Honda F series

Get the APE and be done with it

Oh, and btw...when I first installed the new version (latest J24) CCTL, it was as smooth as butter until one day randomly the tip decided to show its true integrity!
