Default How Important is Backpressure?

I have a '03 F4i and used to have a Youshi slipon before the bike was all cracked up. After the accident and before I bought it, my buddy took an old F2 D&D slipon and cut it down and removed all...ALL the baffling. The pipe is loud as hell, which doesn’t bother me, but I don’t know enough about the engine to know if the lack of backpressure can harm the motor. Anyone else know?

From what i've heard, it will onlyHARM the motor (burn a valve)if your just dumping the exhaust right out of the head.

.....But it will probably hurt your low end performance.

there's no such thing as no backpressure. there's always backpressure.

the problem you run into when there isn't enough back pressure is that the motor becomes less efficient at certain points in the rev range. the less pressure the higher up you scoot the powerband up, as it takes more exhaust gas velocity to achieve proper scavenging, which means power increases.

removing the baffling will basically make the motor make more power, higher up, but at the cost of low-end or possibly mid-range performance.

Okay, this makes me feel better. I understand the relation of backpressure to the exhaust valves and all that. I just want to know if the lack of backpressure would damage those valves over time. From whatI understand, this pipe will only **** off everyone around me and not my valves which will now make be quit loosing sleep over this. Thanks for the help guys!
