Default HID Headlight fuse

I installed a DDM HID kit (35w 5000k) about a month ago on my 2001 F4i and they have been working fine. However I went to start it today, and the high beam was on when I turned the bike on. Both lights lit up for a second, then turned off... I found out later I blew a fuse. Replaced the fuse, and now they both work fine. Just wondering if this is normal? Or is this an indication I installed something wrong?

I'm just about to install mine. I'll let you know in a month if I have the same problem. Can't see why it should happen though, unless you've got a short or there's something squiffy with the ballast and starting gear.
Anyone else got any ideas?

I have the same problem. The highs have to be off during start up. If you want to you can raise the fuse level then you can. ANd i have the DDM 8000K kit

I replaced the 10A fuse with a 15A fuse, and it worked fine for months, but if you do this be careful. I was in traffic yesterday (85 degrees) and flipped on my high beam switch (out of boredom).. about 5 min later I got the blinking oil and temperature lights and my temp was 255. After pulling over it turns out I blew the fuse to the fan.

I am a bit confused on how this can happen, from my understanding, demanding power for the lights shouldn't increase the power to the fan?

Also, can running the bike above 250 for even a minute or two cause serious damage? Is there anything I should check for?

Thanks in advance for any/all help.

would make sense as they pull around 6A each at start-up, even though I usually start the the bike with both on and have been fine for over a year?
