Default Gas leak problem!

Hey guys my name is peter, im new to the forum and i've got myself in a tight budge. I recently bought a 06 f4i gas tank for my 01 f4i but after i put everything together and put gas in it, gas started leaking from the bottom. I was wondering if i need a 06 gas pump to match the tank or what?? please help if you can :]

Hey peter , did you get all new seals and gaskets when you put the new pump in to the new tank ? i had this same problem, i took the tank and pump to my buddies shop and they went though 3 seals before it "sealed" properly and the leak stopped

I've had this happen, too. It can be a pain in the *** to get that seal to seal.

First of all, use a new gasket. They're not that expensive. Second, use a thin layer of fuel gasket sealer, sometimes called fuel lubricant. I use an aviation product called Dow DC4. It's clear, very light weight stuff. Don't use a setting or hard sealer.

Last, follow the torquing pattering and guidelines in the service manual. Before you install the tank, slosh test it with a small amount of gas to see if it holds.

You'll get this right, don't worry.

Does all of the gas leak out or does some? On mine the previous owner had messed around with the tank and replaced the pump. Now I can only put in 2.5 gallons...any more I add it leaks out the bottom. I was wondering if we had the same problem.

the seal should fix the problem , and go with some sealing solution. the pump should be fine. PS : watch how hard your tighten the nuts on the pump, cause mine snapped off one of the fasteners ! had to get it welded back on ! it was a pain in the butt
