Does anyone know if fork tubes are made of aluminum? I think they are. If so I was thinking of polishing them.

the tubes themselves or the lowers? the lowers are aluminum I do believe, thats a lot of sanding, and grinding and polishing, did it to my old chopper.

if you got time on your hands, and the tools, go for it

The tubes are hard chrome plated steel. See for yourself, try a magnet.
