I was thinking along the lines of these: SHOGUN/DMP FUSE FLUSH MOUNT CARBON AMBER WITH AMBER TIP UNIVERSAL MOTORCYCLE MARKER LIGHTS
BTW,
REALLY impressed with the guys who have put LEDs in the passenger peg brackets!

See attached pic of what I ended up doing, as I too needed to relocate the standard Honda elephant indicators further back, to avoid the tail pack eventually destroying them ....
Firstly, I tried the el cheapo (not the top Fusion or whatever) "button" LED indicators from ebay - slotted them directly into the indicator mount points. End result? At night you could see them from the sides; from the back, just. During the day, there was more light from my bum! (too much info I know ...)
2 x Indicator Turn Light for Honda CBR Motorcycle (eBay item 200580372198 end time 27-Mar-11 19:00:38 AEDST) : Cars, Bikes, Boats
Secondly, I installed (in parallel wiring wise) the little "attach to number plate" standard incandescent indicators. End result? Much brighter than the side facing button LEDs ones, but they could not be seen very clearly during the day, especially when the sun shone directly onto the indicators (washing them out).
2 X Motorcycle Turn Signal Indicators - Diamond (eBay item 190501989396 end time 15-Apr-11 18:30:50 AEST) : Cars, Bikes, Boats
Lastly, I installed a THIRD pair, also incandescent, also from ebay - these have been installed on the licence plate light middle stem. This have been by far the brightest of the three pairs. I'm too lazy to uninstall the other two pairs ....
4 Oval Amber Motorbike Turn Signal Indicator Light Bulb (eBay item 220667801642 end time 09-Apr-11 20:36:38 AEST) : Cars, Bikes, Boats
Overall, I think this pair that mounts off the licence plate middle stem, should suffice for general usage. The standard Honda elephant ones, ugly as they may be, will always be the best in terms of visibility, but these ebay ones are sufficient.
The final suggestion if I may .... stick with incandescents, unless the LED ones are really really good (eg. Oxford 1W ones). Halogen ones are also good. The el cheapo ebay LED indicators are seriously weak in daylight, often getting washed out. WAY too dangerous in my view, when cars in the rear cannot see your indicators whilst you're changing lanes ....
Happy solving ....
