Default Fix speedo or part exchange

Hello,

I have had my 02 CBR600 F4i (now 17000 miles) for a while now. Due to speedo issues(https://cbrforum.com/forum/f4i-main-...working-98034/) I got it diagnosed from Honda dealer(believe it or not, 3 hours was charged - its a rip off to confirm what I already knew) now looking at expensive repair(part + labor). Otherwise bike in real good shape.

This is where I need help.
On a 20 year old bike, is it worth spending more money or to pass it on and buy a recent one.

There is another option of keep riding as this speedo issue is intermittent and hope it doesn't go any bad.

Last thing I want is to spend money fixing it now and come next summer another costly problem.
My heart is reluctant for sale. What do you guys think, would it be too much of trouble to maintain 20 year old CBR going forward ?

Here is my bike(if thats helpful)

@angryant Hi and welcome to the forum. So I read the thread you pointed to. I'm not totally clear, but it seems that you're saying you have a bad Speed Sensor, is that right? If that's true, you are also saying that you paid a Honda dealer for 3 hours of labor to confirm that the sensor is bad, but you didn't let them replace it while they had the bike taken apart? And now it's put back together? Have I got that right?

Personally I'd buy the part and get a manual and replace it myself. It's a whole lot less than buying another bike. You're bike is in fantastic shape and I wouldn't be parting with it. IMO

It does look like that part is crazy expensive in the UK.

Thanks for your message IDoDirt.

Yes. It would have costed 3 more hours + expensive part to get it done from dealer. I was/am still hoping to get the part from US(cheap including the delivery)

I agree, its lot more money to look for new bike and I appreciate your view. Thanks

@angryant Well, then starting with the lowest price is probably a good place to start. Then see what shipping and VAT brings it to, right?

I would keep it and fix it myself. I love the F4i and wish I could find one in good shape.

Fab! Thanks a ton for the link @IDoDirt
I had looked at ebay a while ago with price of around £120 delivered. Yes I would pick the lowest quote :-)
