FI light comes on when riding - 2001 f4i
I went out for a ride today and after about an hour my FI light came on and stayed on pretty much the rest of the time riding (prob stayed on for 2 hours).
So when I got home, I checked the manual and it says with the motorcycle on the side stand, start the engine, let it idle and note how many times the malfunction light blinks. So I did that and the light didn't come on. (also tried it without the bike started just on)
I was wondering if because my speedo works intermittently or my fuel gauge sensor doesn't work if they could cause the FI light to come on when riding and stay on. (temp was btw 80 to 100)
Any ideas what may cause the light to stay on when riding. I just don't want to cause any damage to the bike.

exact same problem as me. speedometer works fine at startup. After a while, it just stays at 0mph and my odometer doesn't go up, which is a good thing in a way.
Asked friends that work as service guys at bike shops and they all said same thing, bad speed sensor. Just replace it and you'll be good. Don't be afraid of the FI light thing. Nothing's wrong with your bike that'll make it dangerous or damaged. You can leave it like that as long as you want and not have a problem, or you can fix it right away.
