2001 F4I cutting off after riding
Hello everyone, I'm new here and I'm glad to be part of this forum. Its an awesome resource to find tips and suggestions, and that is why I need anyone's help.
I searched around for this topic and/or threads with a similar issue, but unfortunately I haven't quite seen anyone with the same issue I'm dealing with.
See, I just bought a 2001 F4i with 7600mi. It starts well idles just fine, and I can even get to ride it for a while. However, it unexpectedly shuts off while in 1st or 2nd gear, while the clutch is in, like when I'm waiting at the light or coasting to a stop at the light. Initially, I figured it was the battery, so I bought a brand new one and replaced it... but its still happening.
I also realized that as long as I keep the throttle up and the revs at above 3000rpm, it won't shut off...
One of my rider friends suggested that I should change the plugs, and I read somewhere that its the fuel pressure regulator... I also read that it might be the gas, since this bike had been stored for well over 6mo before I bought it.
At the risk of sounding stupid, I would like to say that if there is anyone who has gone through the exact same issue and found a solution, please help me out. I would still welcome anyone's suggestions.
Thank you all

If you've gone through more than 1 tank of gas, I'd probably rule that out. Bad idle when warm can be a few things. A basic tune up would probably be the best thing to start with. New plugs properly gapped, new fuel filter. Does it start back up ok after it dies? Has it ever cut out while you were riding? Another thing I would check is your battery voltage at idle. It's possible you could have a bad rectifier/regulator. I'd start with spark plugs and go from there - one thing at a time.

Once it warms up which should be around 160-170 degrees the idle wax unit will back out to proper idle. what is your idle rpm? If it runs fine above 3000 and stalls coming in to stops, the fpr would be an excellent place to look. If it were bad it will flood it out when closing the throttle which would cause it to stall. Does it fire right back up, or do you have to hold the throttle open? That would be another sign of a faulty fpr.
