Extended Warranty question

Extended Warranty question
I just bought an '06 CBR, and I was offered the option of two different warranty packages. The first was just a basic extended warranty, and it was $450. The second was a "platinum" warranty that included all scheduled service and covered both parts and labor. The price for the platinum warranty was just shy of $1200.
Looking at the owner's manual, it appears that nearly all of the scheduled service is just oil changes. The rest is pretty much inspection of various components, or replacing them at specific mileage. Oil changes I can handle. Is there any reason why I wouldn't be able to change out the air filter, spark plugs, or anything else? Are there any scheduled maintenance tasks that really need to be done by a Honda service center? Also, how often should the bike get a "tune-up" and check for things like valve adjustments, etc.
The extended warranty is something I think I should pick up. The real dilema is which one.
Thanks for the help.
